I'll
talk
you
about
our
machines; PILOT,
PalmPilot,
PalmPilot
Pro,
Palm
III,
and
WorkPad.
Have
you
ever
read
the
following
lines?
"PILOT,
Palm
Pilot,
Palm
Pilot
Pro,
Palm
III,
and
WorkPad..." "PILOT/Palm
Pilot/Palm
Pilot
Pro/Palm
III/WorkPad..."
You
saw
it
about
10
seconds
ago.
Which
do
you
like
them? Before
thinking
that,
do
your
sight
become
more
poor? Or
do
you
get
a
headache?
1996 U.S.

released
"Pilot"
1997 3Com

released
"Palm

and
"Palm

released
"Work

1998 3Com

released
"Palm

@
Perhaps, the
above
history
of
the
generic
name
of
our
machines had
made
this
confusion.
So,
I'll
propose
that
we
should
call
the
generic
name
of
our
machines
as
"Palm/Pilot"
"Palm/Pilot"
means
the
gerneric
name
of
all
machines;
PILOT,
Palm
Pilot,
PalmPilotPro,
Palm
III,and
somettimes
WorkPad.
At
1998.4.29, I
proposed
this
general
name
"Palm/Pilot"
only
in
Japan, after
the
release
of
Palm
III. And
now,
it
have
taken
root
perfectly
in
Japan. You
can
find
the
book
whose
name
"Palm/Pilot
Perfect
Navigation
Book" in
Japanese
book
stores.
Japanese
people
don't
need
to
write
the
following
lines; "PILOT,
Palm
Pilot,
Palm
Pilot
Pro,
Palm
III,
and
WorkPad..." "PILOT/Palm
Pilot/Palm
Pilot
Pro/Palm
III/WorkPad..." Because
we
can
write
only
"Plam/Pilot".
I
won't
force
anoybody
this
name. But,
if
you
like
it,
please
use
this
name.
Somebody
calls
"Palm
Pilot"
as
the
generic
name
of
our
machines. But
I
can't
recognize
that
it
is
the
best
name. Because
"Palm
Pilot"
is
the
one
name
of
them
at
the
same
time. And
sombody
calls
"PalmOS
machines"
as
the
generic
name
of
them. It's
not
bad.
But
I
miss
the
name
of
"Pilot". "Pilot"
has
a
great
memories
of
the
history
of
our
machines. So,
I
wanted
to
continue
using
the
word
"Pilot"
in
the
near
future
"Palm"
era.
As
I
thought
that
their
generic
name
had
to
contain
2
words;
"Pilot"
and
"Palm", I
assumed
that
"Palm/Pilot"
is
the
best
generic
name
of
our
machines.
At
least,
in
the
articles
"Palm
Ninja" I
will
use
"Palm/Pilot"
as
the
general
name
of
our
machines. Please
remember
it!
